Hunter and Crowley are a nice suburban couple. While using a payphone in the Los Angeles slums, Hunter sees a street gang (led by Hopper) knife another youth. He tells his story to the police and then is terrorized by the gang. Though well-acted, the film is rife with sadism. The ending resolves things just a little too neatly and glosses over some more
