In one of his last of seven films of as private investigator Michael Shayne, Nolan goes AWOL from jury duty when he discovers some discrepancies in the murder suspect's alibi. He and reporter-girl friend Weaver do some sleuthing and dig up two more murders to pin on the defendant, Derr.
Nolan does 60 days in jail for his maneuver.
