Mahoney arrives in a small California oil town in search of an Indian who once served him as a scout. But when he discovers that his old companion is missing and that his land is now used for oil drilling, Mahoney starts asking questions. Told that the Indian has been hanged for attacking a

local woman, the suspicious Mahoney investigates the disappearance for himself. Working with Patten, the woman who supposedly was attacked, he discovers that evil oilman McGraw framed the dead man in order to get to the oil deposits on his land. Slow-moving, the film is similar to BAD DAY AT BLACK

ROCK, though not nearly as well done. The direction meanders, receiving no help from the weak script. Key suspense points, such as Mahoney's relationship with the Indian, are revealed much too early in the film. The film carries the distinction of being one of the few westerns where there is not a

single bullet fired. Actor Jock Mahoney was a stuntman for many years before becoming a hero in B Movies. He played Tarzan in one film, and was the stepfather of Oscar winning actress Sally Field. Cowriter William Talman was also an actor and is better known for being bested by Raymond Burr in

court battles for the "Perry Mason" TV series.
