Barry Levinson produced and directed this "personal film," a high-pitched whine about Hollywood, the town that made him rich but failed to rave about his disastrous prior effort, TOYS. Joe Pesci stars as Jimmy Alto, a would-be movie star who hangs around the pool in his low-rent apartment
complex; Christian Slater is his buddy, a befogged electronics whiz who can't find work; Victoria Abril is an ambitious cosmetician who wants to be hairdresser to the stars. With predictable irony, the three find fame beyond their wildest dreams in an act of media infamy. Misconceived,
self-indulgent, and unfunny.
