Since the wholly unimaginative series needed a gimmick at this point to stay afloat, the new but short-lived 3-D craze came along just in time. With the action moved from Amity Island to Florida's Sea World, a new cast was in order, with police chief Brody's two sons, Mike and Sean, now old

enough to be played by Dennis Quaid and John Putch. Calvin Bouchard (Louis Gossett, Jr.) runs the theme park; Kathryn Morgan (Bess Armstrong) is a marine biologist who works there and who lives with Mike. A baby great white shark is caught after some divers disappear, and the Sea Worlders think

they have a great attraction. But they haven't reckoned on a mother's love for her offspring, and when Big Mama comes to call, things get out of hand and she wrecks the place. Although shot well and boasting some effective 3-D work, this is a woefully inadequate effort, and the series began to

slip into inadvertent self-parody. Joe Alves, who had been production designer on the first two JAWS features, was rewarded for his efforts by getting to direct this picture.
