Reynolds plays a precocious teenager who takes full advantage of the fact that an Army base has been built in their small town by running off in search of romance with a soldier. Arnold, her father, an outraged newspaper editor, has tried to stop the installation of the base, fearing the

repercussions scores of young, cooped-up men will have on the young cooped-up females in town. Reynolds falls in love with young soldier Hutton and arranges a private party for him in her home when her folks are away. Jealous local ex-boy friend Erdman busts up the romantic evening by inviting all

of Hutton's army buddies over as well. Of course, the folks come home early, just ahead of the M.P.'s, and everybody manages to come out with a minimum of heartache. The film earned an Oscar nomination for its editing.
