An embarrassingly miscast, made-for-TV version of Charlotte Bronte's novel, with York (too pretty) and Scott (too tough). The direction focuses attention on plot, consequently reducing the classic tale to something like a soap opera, though some atmospheric photography helps. The film is pleasant entertainment, but it's far from faithful to Bronte.
