Jacco (Laurent Malet) is a young, curly-haired delinquent who is best pals with Freddie (Michel Montanary). The two of them raise hell wherever they go--getting drunk in church and falling off the pews, singing loudly while wandering the streets in the middle of the night, and sleeping

with any women they can find. Freddie is the playboy, while Jacco (short for Jacques, and changed to Jacko for the US release title) seems content in his romance with Magda (Annie Girardot), a bar owner nearly twice his age. It's about an hour into the film when Jacco meets Lise (Evelyne Bouix), a

pretty, short-haired young woman engaged to marry Guillaume (Jean-Claude Brialy), a wealthy businessman. The slight attraction between Jacco and Lise grows into a deep love, as both of them shut out the wider world for as long as possible. Eventually, however, the pressures on the relationship

prove too great. First-time director Walter Bal tries to combines elements of Truffaut's JULES AND JIM (the bond of friendship tested when one friend falls in love) and Bertrand Blier's GOING PLACES (the vulgar carousing and homoeroticism), but succeeds only in creating two one-dimensional yahoos

who are far more obnoxious than they are rebellious. The film only comes alive in the final half-hour with the appearance of Bouix, who in 1984 would play Edith Piaf in Claude Lelouch's EDITH AND MARCEL. Otherwise, the film is a tedious ninety minutes with a third-rate pop rock score. (In French;

English subtitles.)
