Investigation Of A Citizen Above SuspicionMovie
The winner of 1970's foreign film Oscar, this jarring and potent Italian film tells the story of a recently promoted Fascist police inspector (Volonte) who one Sunday afternoon slits his mistress's throat. He then plants phony evidence and makes an anonymous call to report the crime. The
police unearth clues that point to the inspector, but ignore them because of his standing. The killer eventually writes a confession and awaits his capture, while planning to receive an acquittal.
An excellent look into the mind of a murderer, INVESTIGATION features a fine performance from Volonte in the leading role. Director Petri has made an antifascist statement that is both pointed and poignant, full of eerie, unsettling moods abetted by Morricone's score. A piercing satire of Italian
investigative techniques, and an interesting meditation on the relationship between class and guilt.
