become a mere backdrop to the meandering story of a young Lithuanian woman (Katerina Golubeva) and her encounters with assorted denizens of the multicultural Latin Quarter, notably the mysterious Camille (pretty non-actor Richard Courcet). Tres atmospheric and thoroughly opaque, it's been mistaken

for a masterpiece by critics to whom postmodern cool is signified by slick visuals and a virtually affectless acting style. It's a probable must-see for Kieslowski fans; for everyone else, it's a puzzle not worth solving. Featuring the most enervated drag show ever filmed.
