Brialy has just one week to pay back a gambling debt, so with the aid of dim-witted criminal Remy, he decides to rob Paris' Galeries Lafayette department store. They make Christmas Eve their big day and Marielle, another of Brialy's little helpers, disguises himself as Santa Claus. They fill

up a bag with the stolen money, but it winds up in the hands of Barbulee, who plans to head for Chile. After some more bumbling and chasing, Brialy gets the money back in his hands, but it has inadvertently been coated with glue and needs to be washed and dried. For all his efforts, poor Brialy is

caught in the end. The picture is filled with favorites of the New Wave directors--Brialy appeared in both Claude Chabrol's and Jacques Rivette's first films (LE BEAU SERGE and PARIS BELONGS TO US, respectively); Remy is a veteran of Truffaut's pictures (THE 400 BLOWS and SHOOT THE PIANO PLAYER)

as well as Marcel Carne's CHILDREN OF PARADISE. (In French; English subtitles.)
