This well-crafted comedy concerns top-drawer CIA agent Miles Kendig (Walter Matthau), who is demoted to managing the office files by his bureaucratic boss (Ned Beatty). Miles takes off for Europe and meets Mikhail Yaskov (Herbert Lom), an old friend and Soviet agent, who suggests Miles write his memoirs.
