More Studios Support Digital Copy: PCs, iPods/Macs, even PSPs! | DVD News and Reviews | 4/29/2008
A few months ago we took a hands-on look at Digital Copy with Family Guy - Blue Harvest. The show's Star Wars parody came to DVD with an extra disc containing a digital file version of the feature which easily copied to a Video iPod, a PC, or a PC-file compatible device (like an Archos media player). It's a handy way to get a "portable" copy of the DVD you've bought, so you don't have to buy it all over again via download to the hard drive of your laptop or a portable video device. But what else is on the way for Digital Copy?· Fox has the biggest support for on-disc Digital Copy so far, but Family Guy was actually their second. Last November's 2-DVD version of Live Free or Die Hard was first. The Blu-ray version didn't have it, though, and it didn't support iPod copies yet either (leaving iPod users AND Macintosh users out in the cold). Hands-On with Digital Copy | DVD News and Reviews | 1/25/2008
Last week, during the MacWorld event, Fox and Apple announced iTunes Digital Copy. The first release to utilize this technology was Family Guy: Digital Harvest, which I received the other day. Many people have questions about how the Digital Copy works, so I'd like to walk you through my experience with it.The "Blue Harvest" release is a two-disc set, with the second disc devoted to the digital copy. I inserted the DVD-ROM into my Mac laptop and a window popped up with a single icon. Double-clicking the icon launched iTunes, with "Blue Harvest" listed under "Devices." Clicking on the DVD launched the iTunes store and took me to a special "Blue Harvest" page where I entered my 16 digit code. Pressing "Redeem" took me to a new iTunes Store Terms and Conditions screen which I agreed to. A little over 2 minutes later the file had been copied to my computer, with the movie appearing under my "Purchased" tab. Enchanted Bewitches the Holiday Box Office | Today's News: Our Take | 11/25/2007
Disney's Enchanted topped the box office with a $35.3-million three-day haul, and has taken in $50.5 mil since Wednesday — the second-best five-day Thanksgiving opening ever (behind Toy Story 2's $80.1 mil). This Christmas placed second with $18.6 mil.Rounding out the top five were Beowulf ($16.2 million for the three-day weekend), the video-game adaptation Hitman ($13 mil in its debut) and Bee Movie ($12 mil).
