"School brain" Pittman's lack of common sense leads to his downfall. Since he is not exactly Mr. Popular at school, young femme fatale Aldridge has no problem coercing him into helping with her homework. Not only does he help, but he does absolutely all the work for her, something that is

easily recognizable to the teacher. Fearing his inability to make much of himself in the world of high academia, Pittman turns to crime. His complex scheme to rob a shipping office meets with disaster when Aldridge allows her greedy nature to take advantage of Pittman one more time. This film

effectively portrays the influences acting upon the youth of America during the late 1950s, but does so with a high degree of compassion for its characters.
