Henry Aldrich (Jimmy Lydon) runs for high-school class president in one of the best films of the "Aldrich" series--the first to star Lydon, who had replaced Jackie Cooper. Henry is nominated by a conniving rich kid whose intention is to split the votes and insure his own election. That

plan backfires when the female candidate (Mary Anderson) falls for Henry and drops from the race. Complications arise as Henry is accused of stealing his opponent's speech, and someone tries to stuff the ballot boxes. Paramount created the "Henry Aldrich" series to compete with the "Andy Hardy"

films that were mopping up at the box office. By purchasing the rights to the popular radio show "The Aldrich Family," the studio had a built-in audience, but they spent little money on the series, and it never rose above "B" picture status. Jimmy Lydon became so typecast in the Henry Aldrich role

that when he appeared in films other than the series about the bumbling youth, members of the audience would shout "There's Henry Aldrich."
