It was a long, rough road from THE EXORCIST to HELL NIGHT for starlet Linda Blair (remember ROLLER BOOGIE?). She could take comfort in the fact that this is one of the better HALLOWEEN rip-offs, which may have something to do with the fact that it was produced by HALLOWEEN executive

producer Irwin Yablans and DREAMSCAPE producer Bruce Cohn Curtis (who also, however, produced ROLLER BOOGIE). Four freshman pledges of fraternity-sorority Alpha Sigma Rho (Blair, Vincent Van Patten, Peter Barton, and Suki Goodwin) are, by way of initiation, forced to spend the night at Garth

mansion, where a mass murder was once committed by a man who killed his wife and three of his four handicapped children (one deformed, one deaf and dumb, one retarded, and one a literal monster), then killed himself. Moronic frat members set out to scare the foursome--who spend much of their time

frolicking in their underwear--but someone or something kills them one by one. While the basics are pretty familiar, director Tom DeSimone (REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS; ANGEL 3: THE FINAL CHAPTER) does manage to create a few effective moments. Although the actual gore content is low, the titillation

content is high, an avenue DeSimone would continue to explore in his future exploitation movies. The film was a relative hit at the box office, triggering rumors about a sequel that would once again feature Blair.
