Taylor and Deuel are former Air Force pilots smuggling black market goods into Africa after WW II. They deliver their air cargos to gangster Guardino, whose mistress is Cardinale. She falls in love with Taylor. When the two airmen try to get out of Guardino's clutches, Deuel is killed.
Taylor avenges his buddy's death and goes off with Cardinale while US agent McCarthy wonders--along with the audience--why they got involved.
