This is an interesting but disappointing feature film from director William A. Graham, whose made-for-TV movies ("The Amazing Howard Hughes," "The Guyana Tragedy") showed promise. Bruce Dern stars as Harry Tracy, a likable bank robber who risks romance with a judge's daughter (Helen

Shaver). A failed artist (Michael C. Gwynne) who hangs around the outlaw eventually betrays him, leading to a final shootout with the local sheriff (folkie Gordon Lightfoot, in his movie debut). The film has many good moments, but Graham can't seem to bring off the mix of tragedy and comedy,

partly because the script so heavily romanticizes and sweetens the personality of real-life bandit Tracy, who was actually one of the meanest killers among Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch.
