Does Restless, Jerky Bourne-style Camera Work Make You Sick? | Ask FlickChick | 8/23/2007
Question: Much has been made about Paul Greengrass' handheld-camera work in The Bourne Ultimatum, and the fact that both Supremacy and Ultimatum have been hits makes me certain that filmmakers will keep doing it. But I can't be the only person who gets nauseous watching these films. The incessant movement is difficult to watch. Rarely does the camera stop long enough for the viewer to process a shot... even the quietest moments can't be still. Matt Damon is great and I'd like to say I enjoyed the movies, but when I have to go home and take something for headache and nausea, that can't be good. Box Office: Homer & Co. Rolling in D'oh! | Today's News: Our Take | 7/30/2007
Cowabunga, dude! The Simpsons Movie didn't just open big, it opened Homer's-belly big! With a haul of $71.9 million, it was not only the No. 1 flick of the week, it was also the fifth biggest debut of the year. Rounding out the top five are I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, with a $19.1 million take; Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, adding $17.1 million to its kitty; Hairspray, catching another $15.6 million in its Miss Baltimore Crab nets; and the new Catherine Zeta-Jones romcom No Reservations, with a paltry $11.8 million. Of course, even Zeets' numbers looked pretty sweet compared to those of our beleaguered LiLo: Her new (last?) pic, I Know Who Killed Me, generated only $3.4 million in ticket sales. Did Chuck & Larry Snap Harry Potter's Spell? | Today's News: Our Take | 7/23/2007
The weekend box office title may, just may, be up for grabs. Despite awful, awful reviews, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry opened with an estimated $34.8 million, versus $32.2 mil for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which was anchored down a bit by a certain book's release. Final figures to be released Monday will confirm this week's crown. Either way, the box office was up 3.5 percent compared to a year ago.Rounding out the top five were Hairspray (debuting to $27.8 million, two-thirds of which came from female filmgoers), Transformers ($20.5 mil) and Ratatouille ($11 mil), which I still can't convince my kids to see. #*$@ing Cars loyalists! read more

No offense to Buffy at all, but it's as if they just this past week "discovered" her, or did she suddenly recover from agoraphobia? And Heigl with a dog, Paris with a dog, Duff with a dog.... Do the paps carry a spare Chihuahua in their film bag? • Knock me over with a feather, the Hairspray movie remake/redo/reimagining is getting some 4-star raves, including from the Post. Never underestimate the power of a luminous Michelle Pfeiffer.• Drew is the frontrunner! Ian is the fave! Don't count out Steines! Think You Can Dance Gets a Shot of Hairspray, Duff | Today's News: Our Take | 7/9/2007
Adam Shankman, the director and choreographer of the upcoming Hairspray movie musical, will serve as a guest judge on this Wednesday's So You Think You Can Dance. In addition to offering his extremely qualified two cents, Shankman will choreograph a group routine set to "You Can't Stop the Beat" from Hairspray, to be performed during Thursday’s results show.Also on Thursday, as the judges prepare to send two more dancers home, Hilary Duff will perform "Stranger" from her latest album, Dignity, named after the one thing she still has that most of her pop-tart peers do not.POLL: Which reality show's return are you most looking forward to?
