The great
Charlie Chaplin
's first complete talkie, and a fascinating translation of his silent technique into a unique blend of slapstick, wordplay and heartfelt political commentary. He cast himself as both Adenoid Hynkel, dictator of Tomania (read: Adolph Hitler), and a nameless Jewish barber who awakens from a state of amnesia to learn that Hynkel is calling for the persecution of all Jews.
