Dick Dorcy (Dick Powell) is an Army private in Hawaii (where much of this was actually filmed), where he falls in love with his general's (Henry O'Neill) daughter, Kit (Ruby Keeler). The only problem is, she's engaged to Robert Biddle (John Eldredge), a lieutenant. With their romance

apparently squashed, Dick decides to enter West Point. The story then picks up three years later, when Dick has established himself as a top cadet, as well as the writer-producer-director-star of the Academy's yearly musical. When Kit's dad is made superintendent at West Point, it's not long

before love rekindles, especially when Kit becomes Dick's costar in the play. Keeler, attempting to change her image, barely dances in FLIRTATION WALK, to the viewer's regret. No great songs in the Wrubel-Dixon score, which included "Flirtation Walk," "When Do We Eat?" "I See Two Lovers," and "Mr.

and Mrs. Is the Name" (Allie Wrubel, Mort Dixon). The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, losing to IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT.
