The End: Review
Reynolds learns that he will die in three months from a rare blood disease. He goes to church for his first confession in 20 years, and all new priest Benson can say is "Wow!" He tries to commit suicide and fails, waking up in an insane asylum, where he enlists fellow patient De Luise to kill him. The rest of the film is a burlesque of his repeated attempts to die. Eventually, Reynolds decides that he wants to live, even if only for a few months. The film veers wildly from decent black comedy to dumb slapstick, and director Reynolds seems unsure of his own intentions. In a few places this film is quite funny, however, although De Luise and all the scenes he's in are unbearable.
