Scrooge McDuck, the fabulously wealthy character featured in a series of popular comic books in the 50s and 60s, made his film debut here in the first offering of the Disney Movietoons company. The story opens in Scrooge's hometown of Duckburg, where the "jillionaire" isn't sure that his

three cubic acres of money is quite enough. He longs for the hidden treasure of the legendary Arabian thief Collie Baba, and decides to head off to search for it. Along for the adventure are his nephews, Huey, Duey, and Louie, their female friend Webby, and the wildly adventurous pilot Launchpad

McQuack. In the Middle East, Scrooge discovers the location of the treasure, but his efforts to acquire it are thwarted by Merlock, a mysterious figure with magical powers who very nearly spells the end for the band of adventurers. They escape without the treasure, returning to Duckburg with only

an old lamp to show for their efforts. However, Huey, Duey, and Louie soon discover that the lamp is the home for a genie who can grant their every wish, and the three ducklings are soon enjoying a wish extravaganza. Unfortunately, Merlock is intent on getting the lamp back and it isn't long

before he shows up in Duckburg intent on retrieving the magical possession.

Inspired by the very successful "Duck Tales" television program, this expanded adventure is a reasonably pleasing children's effort, with enough fantasy elements to keep the kids interested. The animation is just a cut above standard TV quality, but the voices are all good, especially comedian Rip

Taylor as the genie.
