A high school in a Southern California suburb is plagued by drugs, graffiti artists, and bad attitudes until a group of WASP-ish, affluent students organize themselves into "The Sentinels," who don hoods to conduct kangaroo courts and torture sessions directed against the undesirable

elements. Everything is all in good fun until some of the victims are murdered after the group lets them go. Suspicion falls obviously on Stockwell, the leader of the group, and the support of the student body for him begins to fall away. It is always fascinating to watch a film disintegrate

before your eyes, and here we have another opportunity to observe this phenomenon. What starts out as a novel premise turns into a routine action picture, with the most unlikely people turning into fierce fighters. The direction is slick (occasionally too slick) and the acting adequate, although

none of this can save the film once it begins to go astray.
