A totally charming and lovable Christmas film from a most unlikely director: Bob Clark, the man behind such horror classics as the original Black Christmas and Deranged, and, of course, Porky's. Based on humorist Jean Shepherd's short stories, the film is set in the 1940s and loosely revolves around young Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) and his single Christmas wish: a Red Ryder BB gun. True to its yuletide tradition, TBS will be broadcasting this holiday favorite back-to-back for the next 24 hours. Read the complete review for A Christmas Story

From the AP wire:Film director Robert Clark, 67, best known for the beloved holiday classic A Christmas Story, was killed, as was his 22-year-old son, in a Wednesday car accident in Pacific Palisades. The two men were in an Infiniti that collided head-on with a GMC Yukon around 2:30 am/PT. The driver of the other car, Hector Velazquez-Nava, 24 — who was under the influence of alcohol and was driving without a license — was hospitalized and will be booked for investigation of gross vehicular manslaughter. A female passenger of Velazquez-Nava's was treated for minor injuries and released. read more
  • The Christmas Story House, and Soderbergh's Mystery Cinematographer | Movie News | 12/8/2006
Send your movie questions to FlickChickQuestion I saw a preview of the Steven Soderbergh movie The Good German and noticed that the black-and-white photography was by his regular cinematographer Peter Andrews What Im wondering is why Andrews never works with anyone else JoanieFlickChick Peter Andrews never works with anyone other than Steven Soderbergh because Peter Andrews is Steven Soderbergh Although there are a number of cinematographers who later became directors including Jan de Bont Barry Sonnenfeld Mario Bava Ernest Dickerson Dean Semler Nicolas Roeg Andrew Davis and Ronald Neame very few mainstream directors shoot their own films in large part because directing a big complicated and expensive feature is more than enough work without adding in another full-time job The only other one I can think of who is working in Hollywood today is Peter Hyams and given how awful his recent films have been you could make a very persuasive argument t read more be the first to leave a comment

  • Can you tell me the name of ... | Movie News | 10/6/2005
Question: Can you tell me the name of this movie? We saw it sometime in the '90s, but think it is set in the '50s. It's about about a boy and a spinning top, and his loud, obnoxious neighbors have an outhouse or a toilet in their yard.Answer: You're looking for It Runs in the Family (1994), based on radio personality Jean Shepherd's novels In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash and Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories and Other Disasters. Family is a less successful sequel to A Christmas Story (1993), which is also based on In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash, one of Shepherd's bittersweet (and often very funny) evocations of growing up in the Midwest in the '50s. read more
