It's 1944. Lancaster, a tired, one-eyed major, leads his weary eight-man squad to a castle in the Ardennes Forest, where they plan to enjoy some R and R. Jean-Pierre Aumont, the nobleman who owns Castle Keep, is married to his niece, Heeren. Because Aumont wants a son but is impotent, he prevails on Lancaster to be a surrogate sire.
