In her warm, energetic portrayal of Cherie, a good-hearted gal whose dream of Hollywood and Vine is interrupted by the reality of a layover in Phoenix, Marilyn Monroe exposed her vulnerability and, for many viewers, proved she could act. Her tinny, off-key and utterly magical rendition of "That Old Black Magic" is one of her finest moments.
