The funniest riff comes first in this jerry-built omnibus of spoofs inspired by THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT (1999). On a cable network called The Woods, six new versions of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT unfold. The Watts Bitch Project sends white filmmakers to the ghetto to figure out what happened to a previous band of Caucasian cinephiles. The Griffith Witch Project blames a crazed extra for a series of inexplicable, allegedly supernatural shenanigans. Comedian Pauly Shore takes viewers behind the scenes of The Bogus Witch Project, which is set entirely in a movie theater, while in The Blair Underwood Project, documentarians try to get a TV star to greenlight their project. The Bel Air Witch Project questions the logic of a sorceress lodging in an upscale neighborhood. Finally, impoverished aspiring directors try to make a blockbuster in the 'hood by relating the saga of The Willie Witch. This sloppy satire cuts back and forth between jerky mini-movies and brief commercial parodies (including one for a sleazy lawyer who handles lawsuits involving satanic impregnation and alien rectal probes) that outshine the over-extended riffs on BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. Among the takeoffs, only The Watts Bitch Project actually exploits the qualities that defined the original film. Die-hard BLAIR WITCH haters will want to support this clueless comic enterprise for its intent, if not its achievements. --Robert Pardi
