BABY BLUE MARINE is the dramatic version of HAIL THE CONQUERING HERO but with none of the genius of Preston Sturges. Vincent masquerades as a hero by assuming the identity of a real soldier. He returns to his home (where Japanese were interned during WW II) and gets the love he was
looking for. Not dramatic enough to make an emotional impact, not funny enough to giggle at, just somewhere in the middle. Look for Richard Gere in a small role in his second film. Remsen does well as Helmond's husband and Conrad as the drill instructor.
