A luxury film by Thailand standards, 1 2 3 MONSTER EXPRESS (a luxury bus) went through almost as many mishaps in the making as the coach does in the film. It was budgeted at about $150,000 (almost twice the ordinary amount spent on the making of a Thai movie); suffered the death of its
original director, Prinya Lilason, early in the filming; and passed through many hands before it was finished, resulting in a curiously disjointed look. The story deals with a bus trip from Bangkok to the provinces, with several murders occurring among the passengers along the way. Finally, they
learn that a time bomb has been placed on the bus, and the panic continues. The most that can be said for this ill-fated endeavor is that it seems to be an attempt to upgrade the local product and not imitate film imports, as is the wont of Thailand filmmakers.
