Nick Lachey
Fans mourning Glee's winter hiatus have something to look forward to: NBC's The Sing-Off (premiering Monday at 8/7c). Nick Lachey hosts the four-night a cappella singing competition that features eight groups battling for a $100,000 prize and an Epic Records/Sony recording contract. Judging The Sing-Off are Ben Folds of Ben Folds Five, Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men and Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger. TVGuide.com spoke to Lachey about the show and why his hosting gig has made him miss 98 Degrees.
TVGuide.com: What sets The Sing-Off apart from the rest of the singing shows out there?
Nick Lachey: This is an a cappella competition so there's no band, no background music — it's just about the human voice. There's a lot of extra pressure that goes along with that, but at the same time when it's done well it's even that much more impressive to hear a great a cappella performance.

Madeline Zima, Californication
Californication's Hank Moody (David Duchovny) has tap-danced his way out of lots of hot water this season. But in the Season 3 finale (Sunday at 10/9c, Showtime), he's got one more obstacle to clear: Mia (Madeline Zima) is back.

Jon Tenney and Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer
Change can be both necessary and extremely hard to accept, especially when we have a say in the matter. If you don't believe in destiny, it's possible sometimes to escape it, but the required effort can seem almost worse than the fate we're trying to avoid.
In our more experimental winter season, Brenda starts out even more resistant to change than usual, especially when Fritz confronts her with a little rescue kitten named Joel. To the unpracticed eye, Joel might appear irresistible; to the scarred heart of Brenda Leigh Johnson, however, the tiny orange-and-white kitten looks less like change and more like the repetition of a journey that ended with her beloved Kitty's ashes in an urn on the mantle. Saying no to Joel's cute, little face might seem difficult, but Brenda believes she has a choice in the matter. Fritz employs some interesting relationship maneuvers in an attempt to convince her otherwise. The past does not necessarily dictate the future...

Men of a Certain Age
Viewers who tune into TNT's Men of a Certain Age (Monday, 10/9c) won't find the next decade's version of Everybody Loves Raymond, and they certainly won't laugh as much as they're used to.
Ray Romano, who used his unique perspective on life to tell jokes, first as a stand-up comedian and later as a sitcom star, uses that same perspective to examine weightier issues. And even though Raymond depicted Romano's semi-autobiographical experiences as a son, brother, husband and father, he says his new character, golfer-turned-party-store-owner Joe Tranelli, is much closer to home.

"That's the sad part. This is more in common [with] me than Ray Barone," Romano says...

Hi!
We hope everyone had a happy, healthy, safe Thanksgiving.
Over holiday weekend, we aired one of our favorite Ghost Whisperer episodes, "Save Our Souls."
In this episode, Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Jim (David Conrad) take a romantic cruise, where Melinda stumbles on a ghost who wreaks havoc on a newlywed couple. Filmed on location aboard the historical and luxurious ocean liner HRS, Queen Mary, (which we affectionately dubbed the "Queen Scary") this episode takes Ghost Whisperer on a high sea adventure. Since the vessel that we shot on has not been out to sea in several years, our visual effects gurus (Armen and Art and their amazing team) did a dynamic job is making the ship look sea-worthy and way cool. Please take a behind-the-scenes look at the total VFX process within "Save Our Souls" (and "Ghost In The Machine" which they also did lots of creative work on.
