The Bachelor

The Bachelor
8/7c ABC
Brad seems to prefer complainers (Ashley H. and Michelle) to cheaters (the departed Stacey). But by how much? Michelle had to rappel down the side of a skyscraper for her rose, and Ashley H. had to wait till the very end of the rose ceremony. And tonight, in Las Vegas, she has to go on one of those dreaded two-on-one dates (to Cirque du Soleil's Viva ELVIS show). Her competition: Ashley S., who won the first rose. Brad takes eight gals (including Emily, whose late fiancé was a NASCAR driver) to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. And Shawntel snares the one-on-one date. The good news: It's a shopping spree. Not so much fun: Brad wants to hear about her work. She's an undertaker. — Paul Droesch

Working Class

Working Class
8/7c CMT
CMT rolls out its first scripted series: this good-natured sitcom starring Reba alum Melissa Peterman as a single mom who moves her three kids (and her slacker younger brother) into a wealthy suburb to give the kids a better life, and takes a job in a supermarket. That won't make her wealthy herself, of course, and there are plenty of poverty jokes (this is a comedy) in the back-to-back opening episodes. Peterman enhances them with her physical-comedy talents. Ed Asner plays her curmudgeonly neighbor and coworker. — Paul Droesch

American Idol

American Idol

The gold rush continues. Gold tickets and the hope for golden vocals were the name of the game when Season 10 kicked off last week with preliminary auditions in the New York-New Jersey area and then New Orleans. A new crop of fresh-faced hopefuls tried to secure that elusive gold ticket — their coveted pass to Hollywood and the next round. Meanwhile, the new-look judges are gradually forging their series identities and dynamic, and the early going suggests this post-Cowell world will likely be warmer and fuzzier and perhaps more nurturing. Tonight, it's two hours of resumed off-beat open auditions in the season's third episode. — Dean Maurer

And Chantal, who's afraid of water, gets to go skin diving. Dates? Or torture? (And don't forget Emily and planes last week.) The group date is an appearance on Loveline with Mike & Dr. Drew, and when the dust settles 11 gals remain. — Paul Droesch
