Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell
The Dunphy and Pritchett families never do anything halfway. So it's no surprise to see Modern Family undergo a Transylvanian transformation for its big Halloween episode.
"Claire [Julie Bowen] is obsessed with Halloween. She's the housewife in the neighborhood with the front-yard graveyard and a maze that trick-or-treaters have to walk through to get their candy," teases Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell), who in real life plans to wear his character's muscle-bound Spider-Man costume to a party being thrown at the home of his TV boyfriend...
Derek Hough and Jennifer Grey
The Dancing With the Stars surprises are suddenly adding up: Bristol Palin survives, yet again. Audrina Patridge is eliminated and the contestant judge Carrie Ann Inaba dubbed "the chosen one," Jennifer Grey, has to go back to basics before she implodes.
"I think after what happened Monday night I might take a little bit different approach, choreography-wise," says Grey's pro partner, Derek Hough, looking humbled after hearing the judges describing Grey's dancing as out of control and telling her to "calm down." Is he going to simplify the routines?
Lucas Neff and Shannon Woodward
Like a candy apple with a razor blade buried inside it, Raising Hope's Halloween outing was both sweet and sharp. Last night, the Chance clan celebrated the season of the weird by giving us tricks (the guys duping Jimmy into thinking Hope had been left at the firehouse), and treats (the first appearance, albeit masked, of Sabrina's doofy beau, Wyatt), as well as trauma that even an exorcist won't be able to fix (Maw Maw in that transvestite-ninja kitty outfit). On top of it all...
You can't stop the Bells! Actress-writer-director Lauralee Bell — aka Cricket on The Young and the Restless — launches the fifth installment of her wackadoo web series Family Dinner November 15 (funnyordie.com and familydinneronline.com). Previous episodes wowed us with guest stints by Phyllis Diller and Cloris Leachman. This time, Bell goes nuts with a massive cast including American Idol champ Jordin Sparks, suds-rock icon Rick Springfield, drummer Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Oscar winner Shirley Jones. The last will play a musical therapist named Dr. Jones who comes to dinner intent on healing the screwed-up O'Connell clan, led by Bell's Oprah-obsessed matriarch.
Few rites of passage are more heart-rending than preparing to say goodbye to a loved one — and naturally, I'm referring to a TV show here. Specifically, Friday Night Lights, a miracle of a series about big-hearted people in small-town America. Each chance to visit feels like an emotionally wrought homecoming.
I asked some of our favorite TV stars to reveal their favorite Halloween costumes of all time. Here's what they said:
Chris Colfer (Glee): "I was a Venus Fly Trap when I was 18. My hands were the plant and then I spiked my hair and made it into a fly with wings. I made the costume myself and I won the best costume prize at the party."
Pruitt Taylor Vince
At the end of The Mentalist's November 18 episode, titled "Red Moon" and directed by series star Simon Baker, something will happen at CBI that casts suspicion on the organization's employees.
Enter Agent J.J. Laroche, played by character actor Pruitt Taylor Vince, the head of CBI's Internal Affairs. He arrives December 9 and will recur in five or six more episodes this the season. The character is described as...
