Ask Matt: Race on Sleepy Hollow, Person of Interest, plus Grey's, Glee, Good Wife

Nicole Beharie

Question: What are your thoughts on the awareness of people in the TV industry regarding the perception that it's always the non-white characters that are killed off shows? It seems impossible to me that those in charge don't see this phenomenon as a problem, and yet, consistently, that seems to be what happens. That reality is so pervasive for me that when I watched the pilot for Sleepy Hollow, my thought as what looked to be the two main characters — a well-known white, male actor (Clancy Brown) and a young, unknown-to-me African-American actress (Nicole Beharie) — approached the spooky, abandoned farm house was, "Seriously, Show? Already you're going to kill off the black actor?" read more

Checking In on Season 4 of Adult Swim's Childrens Hospital

Rob Corddry

Childrens Hospital may have begun as a satire of medical dramas like Grey's Anatomy, but now its take on everything in pop culture has us in stitches. Last season the Adult Swim series spoofed everything from Broadway plays to PSAs, and in one episode, all TV programming from the 1970s.

"It's gotten to the point where we don't know what the  normal Childrens Hospital is anymore," says creator Rob Corddry, who also plays clown doctor Blake Downs. The best example? "This year we preempt the regularly scheduled episode to present the pilot for the British adaptation of the show." (In that version, Downs is a French mime).

Glee

Despite an exhausting shooting schedule, the Glee cast had a blast playing dress up yet again — this time in red leather, glittery gloves and fedoras, for their Michael Jackson tribute episode, airing Jan. 31. "One of our challenges," explains co-costume designer Jennifer Eve, "was to take the inspiration of Michael Jackson but keep the iconic Glee characterizations."

But it's not all sparkle and no substance. According to Cory Monteith, who plays Finn, "What makes 'Michael' a great tribute episode is that it successfully carries a lot of our storylines forward while at the same time paying homage to the King of Pop."
