Chicago is heating up this summer on Starz.
The cable channel will premiere the second season of the Windy City-set drama Boss on Friday, Aug. 17 at 10/9c, Starz announced Wednesday.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Magic City
Welcome to the Miramar Playa Hotel, a retreat for luxury, glamour and decadence.
In Starz's Magic City premiere on Friday (10/9c), we meet the charismatic Ike Evans (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who has worked his way up from cabana boy to owner of the Miramar Playa in 1959's Miami Beach. The drama has that 1960s vibe, but sets itself apart from Mad Men's ad-peddling anti-heroes and Pan Am's glitzy international adventures.
Spartacus Vengeance, Viva Bianca and Lucy Lawless
Fans are still licking their wounds after the Season 2 finale of Spartacus: Vengeance killed off several main characters.
[Spoiler alert! The following is a discussion of the Season 2 finale, including who dies, and information about the upcoming third season, which is currently in production.]
"I still get angry messages about Varro," series creator and executive producer Steven DeKnight told reporters on a call Monday. "Varro's death [in Season 1] still stands as one of the best ends to a character on a show. It had such an emotional impact and such a twist and it was so heartbreaking. Also, it may come as no surprise that I've gotten some angry messages about Lucy [Lawless], killing off Lucretia. I've gotten more than a few, 'You're an idiot. I'll never watch this show again!'"
[Spoilers! The following contains information about the Spartacus finale, including major characters who die. You've been warned.]
Forget Ilithyia and Glaber. In Friday's bloody Spartacus: Vengeance finale, we met the biggest monster of them all: Lucretia. The bloodthirsty Roman went off the deep end in more ways than one, and only an oracle of the gods could have foreseen her insane actions.
But more on that later.
Liam McIntyre, Lucy Lawless, Dustin Clare
All men face the threat of death, but the Spartacus: Vengeance cast has faced it on a regular basis through their characters on the show.
From Game of Thrones to Spartacus: TV's unsexiest sex scenes
Going into the epic finale Friday (10/9c, Starz), we asked the actors to reflect on what it must have been like to be placed in Spartacus' sandals and had them weigh in on two very important subjects:
Spartacus: Vengeance, Manu Bennett
Friday's Spartacus: Vengeance episode is titled "Monsters," and there's no word more appropriate to describe the Romans who bring atrocities upon their enemies... and each other.
In the episode, Ilithyia has returned from being Gannicus-napped and now feels fiercely protective of her unborn child. Lucretia offers Seppia a knife so she can wreak vengeance on Glaber for killing her brother Seppius. But as she strikes, Ilithyia takes the knife and stabs her instead, thus saving her ungrateful hubby's life. We did not see that one coming!
Keeping limber is essential for Spartacus' numerous battle and boudoir scenes, but American actress Ellen Hollman also had to exercise her foreign language skills to play the new warrior woman Saxa.
"It's not just a fighting role and a physical role, but also one that requires fluent German. They failed to mention both of those aspects when I was reading for it," Hollman tells TVGuide.com. When Hollman heard that casting director Paul Weber had just returned from Hamburg, she made a comment in German. "He was like, 'Wait, you speak German?' I said, 'What do you think 'Hollman' is?'"
Starz is giving Magic City a huge vote of confidence: The network has renewed the show for a 10-episode second season before it has even premiered.
Set in 1959 in Miami, the drama stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Ike Evans, a hotelier who gets into bed with mob boss Ben "The Butcher" Diamond (Danny Huston) to finance his dream ...
Nick E. Tarabay
On Friday's Spartacus: Vengeance, we see the fugitives and the Romans actually interact more than usual, which means more talking and a (little) less violence. That's fine: We're still reeling from last week's slice-fest and bracing ourselves for the finale bloodbath coming in two weeks.
In Friday's episode, Gannicus takes his hostage Ilithyia to the rebels' camp. His thinking: If Spartacus kills Glaber's wife, then they'll be even for Glaber killing Sura. Then there would be no more need for vengeance! Ah, Gannicus, if only it worked that way. Ilithyia reveals that Spartacus is her baby-daddy — remember all those flashbacks to her having sex with the masked slave? — and thus he's convinced to keep her alive...
Todd Lasance, Simon Merrells
All hail Caesar!
Todd Lasance has been cast as the infamous ruler of Rome on Starz's Spartacus, the network announced Tuesday.
In the third season of the series...
