The Office Scoop: James Spader's the CEO, But Who's the Boss?

James Spader

With Michael Scott out of The Office's paper company, Season 8 will see two new men take charge of Dunder Mifflin.

When the NBC comedy returns, we'll learn that James Spader's eccentric Robert California has quickly moved up the ranks of Dunder Mifflin — now he's CEO. But don't expect the series to lose its awkward and endearing charm. "Spader has so much of a similar energy to Steve Carell," co-executive producer Mindy Kaling tells TVGuide.com. "Everything he says is funny"...

Prime Suspect Reboot Finds Its Own Footing, Pulls Back on Sexism

Maria Bello, Prime Suspect

It's hard to imagine that a female TV detective in 2011 would face sexism — Mariska Hargitay's Det. Benson seems to be doing just fine on SVU — but NBC's reboot of the BBC's Prime Suspect will still show Maria Bello's Det. Jane Timoney taking some harsh criticism from her male peers.

NBC boss: SVU's Hargitay will remain in "every episode," Voice returns post-Super Bowl

The original series, which ran sporadically between 1991 and 2006, starred Oscar winner Helen Mirren as a female detective thriving in the world of male policemen in England. Producers say the sexism won't come off as strongly in the reboot. "Obviously it's... read more

A Bigger Sing-Off This Fall: More Episodes! More Groups! More Musical Genres!

The Sing-Off

A new judge isn't the only big change coming to The Sing-Off this fall.

With NBC's decision to make the third season of The Sing-Off a weekly competition, kicking off Sept. 19 at 8/7c, it meant the show would more than double the number of episodes it produced. As a result, 16 groups will now compete (up from 10 last season) over 11 episodes (up from the five that aired over the course of one week).

Sara Bareilles is the new judge on NBC's The Sing-Off

Speaking to reporters Monday during NBC's fall TV previews, series executive producer Joel Gallen said groups will also be asked to sing in a number of new genres including read more

Up All Night's Maya Rudolph on Playing an Oprah Wannabe

Maya Rudolph

The Christina Applegate-Will Arnett sitcom Up All Night hasn't even premiered yet, but already co-star Maya Rudolph has gotten a promotion.

Speaking to reporters at the fall TV previews Monday, NBC Entertainment Chief Robert Greenblatt announced that portions of the pilot would be reshot to recast Rudolph's character, Ava, as a daytime talk-show host. "We decided to change the workplace altogether to give Maya a better platform to do her thing," Greenblatt said. Applegate will play a producer on Ava's show. (In the original pilot, Applegate and Rudolph played partners in a PR firm.)

Playboy Club Producer: It’s Not Mad Men and It's Not So Racy

The Playboy Club

Comparisons between NBC's The Playboy Club, the new 1960s-set series that takes place at the first Playboy Club in Chicago, and Mad Men were perhaps inevitable, but the producers and cast of the period drama were on hand at the fall TV previews on Monday to downplay any similarities. "The comparison to Mad Men ends at the era," executive producer Ian Biederman said. "This is a much different show with a much different energy."

Parents Television Council calls for NBC affiliates to drop The Playboy Club

Before the series has even premiered, the show has drawn attention for its name alone, causing the Parents Television Council to question whether a show based on one of the largest adult entertainment industries would be suitable on primetime television. At least one NBC affiliate, Salt Lake City's KSL, has opted to not carry the program, which will be shown in that market by KMYU, the local My Network TV affiliate.

But the producers say it's... read more

NBC Boss: SVU's Hargitay Will Remain in "Every Episode," Voice Returns Post-Super Bowl

Mariska Hargitay, Carson Daly

Mariska Hargitay will be lightening her workload during the next season of Law & Order: SVU, but NBC boss Robert Greenblatt says viewers won't be able to tell.

"You will not notice anything," Greenblatt said Monday, while speaking to reporters during NBC's fall TV preview session. He added that while the actress, who recently adopted a child, will be "lightening her load in terms of shooting days," her alter ego Olivia Benson won't be any less of a presence on-screen. read more

Exclusive: Hugh Hefner Won't Be Narrating NBC's The Playboy Club

Playboy Club

You won't be hearing much from Hugh Hefner on NBC's The Playboy Club this fall. Hefner narrates the new series' pilot episode, but won't do the same in future episodes.

That's because the producers behind The Playboy Club are leaning toward eliminating the show's narration device all together, according to show insiders. (In the pilot, Hefner sets the stage for the show via voiceover at the open and close of the show.)

But that doesn't mean The Playboy Club will be completely scrubbed of its ...
