From Masters of Sex to Boardwalk Empire: How Accurate Are Fact-Based Dramas?

Lizzy Caplan, Steve Buscemi

Halfway through the pilot episode of the Showtime series Masters of Sex, which is based on the story of real-life sex researchers Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson, Masters leaves his wife, Libby, in the care of another doctor as she undergoes infertility treatments so he can slip into a neighboring examination room and watch a prostitute masturbate... It's an amazingly rich six minutes of television that manages not only to set up most of the first season's major plotlines and underlying emotional tensions, but also to explain the story's historical import. In a strictly factual sense, it's also mostly made up.

What can you tell me about Twelve and Clara's dynamic on Doctor Who? — Aisha
Things will be very different between the pair now that the Doctor — to put it gently — has a few more years on him. In fact, without her schoolgirl crush influencing her, Clara begins to come into her own and be more assertive in their relationship. "Then he'll turn. He often turns."

What is Juice up to when the new season of Sons of Anarchy begins? — Luke

On The Run Tour: Beyoncé and Jay Z

If you're a living, breathing person, you probably already know that HBO is filming Beyoncé and Jay Z's final two shows of their popular On the Run tour on Sept. 12 and 13.

Bill can't die! I know everyone does on True Blood, but please tell me that he takes the cure. — Andrea
With only two episodes to go, there are a lot of narrative threads to tie up, including the issue of Bill's mortality. I will only say this: At least one original cast member will say goodbye for good this week. In possibly related news, a longstanding love triangle will be resolved and you'll see one of the show's weirdest — and funniest — sex scenes between a long-unrequited pair.

I can't believe they're already giving DiNozzo a new love interest on NCIS. — Susan
