Grey's Anatomy, Debbie Allen and Jesse Williams
If you thought Meredith Grey had a difficult mother, just wait until you meet the matriarach of the prestigious Avery family.
In this week's Grey's Anatomy, Jackson's mother, Catherine Avery (portrayed by Debbie Allen, who has directed multiple episodes of the ABC medical drama) comes to Seattle Grace to perform a groundbreaking surgery. His intrusive mother's visit becomes even more uncomfortable for him when it's revealed what procedure she's doing:
Grey's Anatomy is taking it to the field.

T.R. Knight isn't afraid of anything. Just ask him.
"I think it's dangerous as an actor to get too comfortable, but maybe sometimes I go towards the discomfort a little too much," Knight tells TVGuide.com with a laugh. "There are a lot of things I maybe should have walked away from, but instead they kind of draw me in a little bit more because there's that terror to it."
Since leaving Grey's Anatomy in 2009, he's starred in his first musical (Parade) and performed David Mamet's A Life in the Theatre on Broadway. For his return to TV on Wednesday's Law & Order: SVU (10/9c on NBC), Knight is again embracing the unexpected to play a suspected rapist — a (seemingly) far cry from Grey's sweet, soft-spoken Dr. George O'Malley.

NATALIE: Mark still clearly cares about Lexie, which won't go unnoticed by Jackson's mother (Debbie Allen), who makes an appearance in this week Grey's. "Jackson is dealing with that in a mature way, being aware of it, but not being obsessed with it," Jesse Williams says. "Jackson is learning that he can't control everything." Still, "Mark is doing a fairly admirable job about staying in his place. He really cares a lot about Jackson as a student and a surgeon."
