The Big Bang Theory
Bill Prady is an Emmy virgin and that's just fine with him.
The Big Bang Theory received its first nomination for comedy series Thursday, but the showrunner/executive producer has no clue which six episodes the show has submitted for the academy to review.
"I just got here, so I have no idea what the rules are. I'm learning about this from you right now!" he tells TVGuide.com. "I've never done this before. I'm going to assume that somebody knows. I'm going to say there's a high-place committee ...
Let's get it out of the way: Yes, Mad Men executive producer Matt Weiner has a plan to deal with January Jones' pregnancy, and no, he doesn't want to talk about it yet.
Mad Men received a leading 19 Emmy nominations among scripted series, and the show's writing staff is in the middle of breaking Episode 6 of the delayed fifth season — which means by now, a decision about Jones' baby bump, and what it means for Betty, has been made. But, per usual, Weiner is keeping all details on lockdown. "I'm not going to say what I'm going to do, but I am going to have to do something! So, that's all I can say. It's really, I mean, you'll have to watch the show," he says. "It was two choices really: Either I hide it or I'm gonna go with it. I made a decision. She told me before the world knew, so I had some time to think about it. The real thing is, she's so cute! She looks great. She looks so great! It's very disappointing."
The new season of The Good Wife, CBS' woman-lawyer-scorned drama, will be about taking risks and evolving. Thus far, it's a strategy that has paid off for executive producer Robert King, who cheered the show's nine Emmy nominations Thursday...
Rhett and Link
Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal of Commercial Kings (IFC, Fridays, 10/9c) often do this thing where they'll take a block of speech that sounds far from musical (or rhythmic, for that matter) and squeeze it into a song. Maybe the ultimate example of that is below, in which a Harry Potter love vlog from a self-described "fangirl...with a camera...being an amateur" becomes an emotional goodbye ballad (despite mosquitoes that threaten to take down the entire production)...
Nigel Lythgoe , Mary Murphy, Jesse Tyler Ferguson
"I'm celebrating these Emmy nominations by working," says Nigel Lythgoe, whose shows American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance received 18 Emmy nominations between them Thursday morning. "I'm about to go on [television] to talk about National Dance Day. And then tonight there's the taping of So You Think You Can Dance when I crush two dancers' dreams and send them home." Thursday's episode will also include the reveal of which all-stars will be returning to pair up with the remaining Top 10.
Michael C. Hall
Michael C. Hall woke up to find a horde of text messages and e-mails letting him know the good news that he had garnered his fifth Emmy nomination. "I had actually forgotten that the announcements were today, so it really was a surprise," the star of Showtime's Dexter tells TVGuide.com.
Mad Men, Modern Family, Boardwalk Empire dominate Emmy nominations
"It feels like a miracle that we're still making this show at all," he continues. "We're in our sixth season now, and it's a show about a serial killer, so it's kind of incredible. The fact that it's happened more than a few years running is a real kick in the head."
What's more surprising...
Sarah Jessica Parker
Sarah Jessica Parker is in her fourth decade of professional acting, and yet she still feels insecurity about her abilities.
"I lose my appetite," she tells Vogue. "By Wednesday of the first week on [the upcoming] I Don't Know How She Does It, I was sobbing, I was apologizing. I was feeling so awful and ashamed, like I had let the director down. If only they would not tell me when the camera was running, I would be OK. I'm like that two weeks into every movie"...
The Modern Family team may be on cloud nine right now after scoring 17 Emmy nominations, but Ty Burrell can only think of those who didn't make the cut.
"I definitely feel like Community is really strong and falls into that category of shows that deserved to be nominated," he tells TVGuide.com. "It's a great show and should be up there with us. I was really happy to see Parks and Recreation nominated. Several of the actors on that deserved to be nominated. It's true of most shows. I feel like they should ...
