We're also hearing that the next time Desmond appears, which might not be for a while, it'll be with Penny at his side.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences banned Hurt Locker producer Nicholas Chartier from attending Sunday's ceremony because he violated Academy campaigning standards with an e-mail urging voters to support his film over Avatar, the Academy announced Tuesday.

Ratings: Leno Returns Strong, Doesn't Match Conan's Tonight Debut

Jay Leno

Jay Leno returned to the Tonight Show the same way he left it: At No. 1 in the ratings.

The Tonight Show scored 6.6 million viewers to handily defeat The Late Show, which earned 3.8 million viewers for Leno's longtime rival, David Letterman. Leno's ratings were up 45 percent over Conan O'Brien's average Tonight Show numbers, but were a whopping 58 percent lower than O'Brien's ratings on his first night on the job, back in June.

Aside from obvious changes like basic cable's less restrictive profanity guidelines, the raw cop drama is still very much the show that NBC canceled before its second season even began. TNT is running the six episodes already produced for NBC.

Southland: TNT will air existing episodes, no new episodes ordered

"The show now has a chance to sink or swim on its own merits and not based on some seemingly arbitrary business decision," Michael Cudlitz tells "If people watch the show, we will survive. If they don't, we won't."

The show continues to provide a riveting ride-along look at the dangerous aspects of law enforcement in Los Angeles... read more
