Fox, Time Warner Cable
News Corp. and Time Warner Cable Inc. have agreed on a new contract that will allow Fox stations to continue being carried on Time Warner systems in roughly 13 million homes, according to CNN.
Fox and Time Warner extend negotiations, avoid blackout
The agreement averted a blackout that had many college football fans fearing they would have to scramble to see their favorite games. Fittingly, the announcement came just before kickoff of the Sugar Bowl between the Florida Gators and Cincinnati Bearcats.
"We're pleased that, after months of negotiations, we were able to reach a fair agreement with Time Warner Cable — one that recognizes the value of our programming," Chase Carey, deputy chairman of News Corp., said in a statement.
"We're happy to have reached a reasonable deal with no disruption in programming for our customers," said Glenn Britt, chairman of Time Warner Cable.\
The deal came after long negotiations that went beyond the Dec. 31 deadline. News Corp., the parent company of Fox, demanded Time Warner pay a monthly $1 fee per subscriber in order to have Fox's broadcast network and cable channels carried on the cable operator's system.
When Time Warner began negotiating for what it believed to be a fairer price, Fox threatened to pull the plug on its channels at midnight ...

Rush Limbaugh admitted to hospital with chest pains
At a news conference at Honolulu's Queen's Medical Center on Friday, Limbaugh said he was being released from the hospital, where he was admitted Wednesday. Limbaugh said the tests found "absolutely nothing wrong," as doctors saw no signs of arterial or coronary disease.
"It was a blessing," Limbaugh said of the results of his angiogram. Limbaugh, 58, also noted that doctors are unsure what caused the chest pains, which he described as "very real," but said a spasm in an artery is one possibility...

NBC Entertainment chief Angela Bromstad recently told BusinessWeek that the network plans to order a 21st season of the legal drama, making it the longest-running prime-time drama in TV history.
"I'm a Law & Order junkie," Bromstad said. "I wouldn't want to be responsible for not having Law & Order break the record."
While Bromstad plans to honor the old, she's also keenly focused on the new. Bromstad said NBC will produce 18 pilots this spring, the most since 2003 and a marked increase over last year's 11...
You'd think CNN would have learned its lesson last year.
The cable news channel once again teamed reality show star/comedian Kathy Griffin with anchor Anderson Cooper to host its New Year's Eve coverage in Times Square. And just like at last year's ball-dropping, Griffin let a naughty word slip on-air.

Fox, Time Warner Cable
Fans of football and The Simpsons can breathe a little easier, for now.
News Corp. and Time Warner Cable Inc. agreed to extend their contract a few hours, avoiding the threatened blackout of several Fox stations and allowing fee negotiations to continue.
Time Warner made the announcement just after midnight — when the existing contract expired — and Fox executive Scott Grogin told The Associated Press at 5:30 a.m. "we are still negotiating."
News Corp., Fox's parent company, is demanding higher subscriber fees for its Fox stations from Time Warner. The company is asking for a $1 monthly fee per subscriber, which will provide subscription revenue to supplement advertising revenue from its broadcast networks.
Time Warner has agreed to negotiate a new fee, but CEO Glenn Britt has called Fox's demand excessive...
What were our top moments of the decade? Check out the video below to see just a few of them: Kelly Clarkson, a sweet, plainspoken waitress from Burleson, Texas, captured our hearts when she won the inaugural season of a little singing competition called American Idol. The Sopranos had a habit of killing off its main characters, but we gasped when "nice wise guy" Silvio whacked the beleaguered Adriana. And back in the real world, Barack Obama made history as the first African-American president of the United States.
