Community Cast Speculates on Show's Direction

Community

NBC's Community can often be seen more as a romp through a postmodern funhouse than a standard-issue sitcom. The series has offered inspired parodies of action flicks, zombie movies, GoodFellas and Apollo 13 and featured a bizarre mash-up of Mean Girls and Robocop. More recently, it exploded the notion of the "bottle episode," TV-industry jargon for shows shot with limited budgets on existing sets with a limited number of cast members to compensate for more costly episodes. This week, it's serving up an animated parody of the old, cheesy Rankin-Bass holiday cartoons (airing Thursday at 8/7c).

All of this meta-posturing led us to a theory that wouldn't be out of place alongside the rafts of speculation that came from Lost fans: That the characters in Community are real people who are slowly coming to the realization ...

One Tree Hill: Brooke, You've Come a Long Way, Baby

One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill's Brooke Davis has come a long way.

Remember the selfish and morally challenged cheerleader of yesteryear? It's hard to believe that was the same person who nearly drowned trying to save someone's life on Tuesday's stormy midseason finale.

Titled "Darkness on the Edge of Town," the episode featured a dangerous rain storm and car accident that put Brooke and Jamie thisclose to death on the infamous Tree Hill bridge (Remember when Nathan saved Rachel and Cooper in Season 3 in the same place?) After saving three people's lives, the fashion maven chose to stay with Jamie, who was pinned behind his seatbelt, and then selflessly pleaded with her fiancé, Julian, to save the little boy first as the levee broke and water flooded the car.

Remembering John Lennon 30 Years After His Death

John Lennon

It's hard to believe it's been 30 years to the day since John Lennon died.

To mark the anniversary, Rolling Stone released its full-length interview with Lennon conducted three days before his death. Excerpts from the nine-hour interview with writer Jonathan Cott previously ran in a tribute issue, but the tapes sat in Cott's closet for nearly 30 years.

"Earlier this year I was cleaning up to find some files in the recesses of my closet when I came across two cassette tapes marked 'John Lennon, December 5th, 1980,'" Cott says. "It had been 30 years since I listened to them, and when I put them on ... read more
