Men of a Certain Age (Monday, 10/9c, TNT)
This bittersweet midlife comedy-drama reaches its midseason finale (already?), with an episode that doesn't just get under its characters' skin but goes where few series would dare: to a colonoscopy. When Terry (Scott Bakula, who has been great this season) decides his 50th birthday calls for the procedure — consider this the show's Public Service Announcement — Joe and Owen decide to make it a group event in Palm Springs. While their plumbing gets a workout, the getaway prompts...

Off the Map may seem like Grey's Anatomy in the jungle, especially with executive producer Shonda Rhimes attached. But series creator Jenna Bans tells TVGuide.com that the show will set itself apart.
How? Jungle medicine.
Map centers on three doctors, portrayed by Caroline Dhavernas, Zach Gilford and Mamie Gummer, who venture to South America to work at a clinic with less than hospitable surroundings and a natural lack of resources. "Here, it's 1952: You don't have high-tech, you don't have big pharma, you have your brain, you have your instincts," Dr. Ben (Martin Henderson) explains to the new doctors after he punches a guy in the face to act as anesthesia in the pilot's opening moments.

The Showtime comedy, which returns Sunday at 9/8c, ended its madcap third season with a gut punch: Hank (David Duchovny) was arrested on assault charges moments after telling his ex, Karen (Natasha McElhone), of his tryst with Mia (Madeline Zima), who, unbeknownst to Hank at the time, was underage. And while that reveal presents plenty of drama for Season 4, it also unearthed a crucial secret that's carried the show since the pilot.
"We've been using that event as a motor for behavior and plot since the beginning," Duchovny tells TVGuide.com. "And I guess that now that is no longer a secret, it is no longer a motor. In a way we're free of it, which will be interesting for the next year, and we'll have to...
Brimming with wit and cleverness, and blessed with a stellar cast, this new cable sitcom tells the story of British-TV producers Sean and Beverly Lincoln (the exquisitely matched Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Greig), whose award-winning show is bought by American network honcho Merc Lapidus (the engagingly slick John Pankow). Merc brings the Brits to L.A. with a "stronger than stone" promise of free rein and no interference. Well, you know what they say about promises, and soon the Lincolns need to decide if they can get with the program. — Ray Stackhouse
