Watercooler: Maybe It's Time to Close The Office

The Office

OK, enough's enough. For at least the past two seasons, The Office has spent more time being over the top rather than grounded in anything close to reality. And we forgave this lack of authenticity because most of the time, the show was funny.

With all due respect to a certain weekly entertainment magazine (where — in the interest of full disclosure — I must admit I worked for many years), "TV's smartest comedy" airs 90 minutes earlier than the glib, heartless Parks & Recreation. read more

Roush Review: Not Quite Masterpieces

Sunset Limited

The made-for-TV movie/miniseries would be an almost completely lost art if it weren't for HBO and the British imports served up by PBS' various Masterpiece franchises. Already this year, we have a deliciously strong contender for best-of-year (and, one imagines, Emmy) honors with Masterpiece Classic's over-too-quickly Downton Abbey.

Vampire Diaries' David Anders: Trust Uncle John

David Anders

"Why does everything John touches fall apart?" Elena asks in an upcoming episode of The Vampire Diaries.

We still don't know who John Gilbert (David Anders) works for or why he's really back in Mystic Falls, but Anders swears to TVGuide.com that his intentions for his biological daughter, Elena (Nina Dobrev), are good. American Idol Episode Recap: Hollywood Week Season 10, Episode 8

American Idol

At long last, Hollywood Week has arrived. The judges wound up giving golden tickets to a whopping 327 hopefuls — up from the usual 250-ish. Seacrest says, "There will be little time to relax" for the contestants, who will immediately face a sudden-death round, just as in years' past. J.Lo says this is where they separate "the men from the boys, the women from the girls." Randy Jackson says, "These kids gotta bring it." Steve Tyler hopes they "did their homework."

The format is exactly the same as it always has been. Groups of 10 contestants will take the stage and sing a song of their choosing a cappella. The judges will deliberate for a short while and make their cuts. No second chances... read more
