Breaking Bad leads the nominees for the Writers Guild of America awards, which were announced on Thursday. The AMC drama, which concluded its run in September, received four nominations, including one for Best Drama Series.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, whose breakthrough hit "Same Love" advocates for same-sex marriage, turned their focus to a new social issue at the American Music Awards Sunday: racial profiling.
The duo, who won Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist as well as Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album (for The Heist), accepted the awards via a satellite feed from a tour stop in Florida. Macklemore eschewed a typical thank-you speech in favor of speaking out against racial profiling.
Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift and Rihanna took home some of the top prizes at the American Music Awards Sunday.
Swift was the big winner, being awarded Artist of the Year. She also took home Favorite Country album for Red, and Favorite Female Artist in both the Pop/Rock and Country categories.
Country power couple Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert were named Male and Female Vocalists of the Year at the CMA Awards Wednesday night. In addition, Shelton also took home the award for Album of the Year for Based on a True Story.
Win Butler of Arcade Fire, Reggie Watts, Jason Schwartzman
YouTube held its first-ever Music Awards Sunday, and the show was ... awkward.
Hosts Jason Schwartzman and Reggie Watts emphasized that the awards show was unscripted, but viewers probably would have been able to tell that even without the reminder. From the strange mini-scavenger hunts Schwarzman and Watts occasionally had to embark on to find the winner's name, to uncomfortable interludes between the performances, it's clear that the show has its share of bugs to work out before (if?) it returns for a second year.
Macklemore, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber are among the nominees for the first annual YouTube Music Awards.
The nominations are based on YouTube data over the past year based on fan engagement, including views, likes, shares, comments and subscriptions. The winners of each of the six categories will be determined by fan votes, counted by sharing the official YouTube Music Awards nomination videos on Twitter, Facebook and Google+.
Carol Burnett was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, the country's top humor honor, over the weekend.
"This is very encouraging," Burnett said in her acceptance speech, The Associated Press reports. "It was a long time in coming, but I understand because there are so many people funnier than I am, especially here in Washington. With any luck, they'll soon get voted out, and I'll still have the Mark Twain prize."
