A&E Cancels The Cleaner

The Cleaner: Benjamin Bratt

A&E has canceled The Cleaner, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The network has opted to not renew the rehab drama starring Benjamin Bratt. This news comes on the heels of the cancellation of A&E's only other scripted program, the Patrick Swayze drama The Beast, and, interestingly, the Emmy win of A&E's Intervention, which is like an unscripted version of The Cleaner.

A&E Television Networks has officially acquired Lifetime Entertainment Services, but neither network's coverage will be affected, they announced Thursday.

Hammertime: An Icon Returns to TV

MC Hammer and Stephanie

It's been six years since MC Hammer (né Stanley Burrell) tested the reality TV waters as an original cast member of VH1's The Surreal Life. Hammer has gone from huge success with 1990s hits like "U Can't Touch This" to his bankruptcy in 1996. In recent years, his life has been quieter and largely out of the public eye. TVGuide.com spoke with Hammer about why he chose do Hammertime now, what sets it apart from other music artists' reality shows and if Hammer pants are his biggest gift to pop culture. read more

Is A&E Giving Up on The Beast?

Patrick Swayze

Things aren't looking great for a second season of The Beast.

A&E isn't expected to renew the Patrick Swayze-fronted cop drama, sources told Variety. A rep for the cable network, however, told TVGuide.com that no official decision about the show's future has been made.

The series' first season ran for 13 episodes, and the finale aired April 23.

The show has overcome its share of obstacles. Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer after the pilot was shot, but the actor received a doctor's OK to complete filming once the series was picked up. Swayze also ... read more
