The Jay Leno Show

Jay Leno Show
10/9c NBC
Jay Leno settles into his new — and somewhat controversial — 10/9c time slot tonight. Like his old gig on the Tonight Show, Leno hosts celebrity guests and airs some of his most popular segments like "Headlines" and "Jaywalking." But the standard two-guest-and-a-music-act setup is out the door as Jay spends more time focusing on comedy bits. Tonight's premiere features Jerry Seinfeld and a performance by Jay-Z, Kanye West and Rihanna.

America's Most Wanted

America's Most Wanted
9/8c Fox
Crimes against children have always been a particular focus on America's Most Wanted, and its 23rd season opens with the searchlight out for two suspected Texas predators. One, a Honduran-born woman named Berny Figueroa, is charged with killing a 2-year-old Brenham, Texas, girl she was babysitting in March 2008. The other case is much older: the 1990 abduction and sexual assault of an 8-year-old. Thankfully, victim Jennifer Schuett lived to tell about it, and she joins Walsh to do so tonight.

Psych

Psych
10/9c USA
A birthday celebration at a cop bar takes an ugly turn for the gang when, instead of ducking away from an out-of-control piñata basher, the partygoers must instead seek cover from a barrage of bullets. The shooting appears to be a robbery, but Shawn thinks that someone was actually targeting Lassiter. The case may not be a piece of cake to solve, though, as the guys come up with a pretty hefty list of suspects.

Vampire Diaries

Vampire Diaries
8/7c CW
Kevin Williamson, the creator of Dawson's Creek and the Scream fright flicks, combines two of his favorite things — teens and horror — in his promising adaptation of the pre-Twilight young-adult book series that nevertheless owes its TV existence to Twilight's mega-success. In tonight's predictable but polished opener, Stefan (Paul Wesley), a centuries-old vampire who doesn't look a day over 19 and refuses to drink human blood, returns to his Virginia hometown to pursue a high-school student (Nina Dobrev) who reminds him of a long-lost love. Of course, Stefan's evil brother (Ian Somerhalder) shows up to complicate things.

It's been 10 years since we last checked in on the residents at 4616 Melrose Place, and evidently the scandal and intrigue never left. The Bill Engvall Show

Bill Engvall Show
9/8c TBS
It's a twin bill of Bill: Two back-to-back episodes mark the Season 3 finale of Bill Engvall's homespun sitcom. In the first outing, oldest son Trent revs up to buy a car, but Bill stalls out in his effort to steer him to the perfect vehicle. In the second episode, Bill and Susan quarrel with a new neighbor over garbage bins, resulting in quite a bit of trash talking. Elsewhere, Trent is still an uneasy rider: He fails a driving test and blames the setback on the loss of his lucky red coin.
