From lazy to tacky to over-the-top, check out the most fashion-challenged TV characters

Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik), The Big Bang Theory

Amy Farrah Fowler is hopelessly clueless when it comes to fashion. She wears what may have been cool for our grandmothers — if they were colorblind and enjoyed mixing stripes and plaids. Her dreary cardigans do nothing to show off her bod — but we guess that doesn't really matter since she's dating Sheldon.

Betty Suarez (America Ferrera), Ugly Betty

Ferrera is actually quite attractive, which is probably why her outfits and accessories had to carry the burden of appearing so ugly. Betty could never quite live down the utterly appalling Guadalajara poncho, and her everyday wardrobe of aggressively patterned old-lady blouses paired with unflattering skirts and sweater vests made its best effort to land on the Fashion Don'ts pages of "Mode" magazine.

Steve Urkel (Jaleel White), Family Matters

Those flood pants. And kaleidoscopic cardigans. And rolled-up jeans. And suspenders. And thick-rimmed glasses. Urkel was nerd personified in the '90s and he owned it. Well, except for that time he became the ultra-suave Stefan Urquelle. The ironic thing is that while we laughed at Urkel's nerdy style back in the day, it's considered hipster chic now. No wonder New Girl's Jess is into him! Did he do that?

Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Szohr), Gossip Girl

We love a good Brooklyn hipster, but Vanessa's style is a weird mix between Boho-chic and the Upper East Siders she loathes so much. If she had just owned her look (and maybe toned down on the feathers and accessories) it could've worked, but instead the overly layered, brightly colored frocks just look disastrous.

Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer), Glee

We'll give Kurt credit for being bold with his fashion choices — like he says, "Every moment in your life is an opportunity for fashion" — but bold doesn't always mean good. In fact, it could be bad or downright baffling. We wouldn't be caught dead in this asymmetrical sweater.

Mimi Bobeck (Kathy Kinney), The Drew Carey Show

To be fair, Mimi's bold and colorful fashion choices — which often included mixing clashing floral patterns with plaids, among other atrocities — had to be loud enough to compete with her garish makeup. But honestly, given her love of troll dolls and her former marriage to rock star Eddie Money, we're not at all surprised that this is how she came dressed to work every day.

Hannah Horvath (Lena Dunham), Girls

Where do we even begin? We get that Hannah lives her life free from caring what other people think, but it's almost like she's daring them to comment on her outfits. Whether it's her love of ill-fitting floral jumpers and "shorteralls" or the dozens of kooky combos in between, we actually find her wardrobe more awkward and cringe-worthy than the nudity people are always squawking about. And don't even get us started on the cocaine-fueled mesh-tanktop-with-no-bra getup.

Meredith Palmer (Kate Flannery), The Office

For such a sexually promiscuous lady, Meredith certainly doesn't dress provocatively. In fact, her frumpy wardrobe could be seen as a form of birth control. She must scour the thrift shops to find castoffs from the elderly and fashionably outmoded. How else can you explain her unlimited number of frightful jumpers and depressing blouses? We'd be driven to drink too!

Julia Houston (Debra Messing), Smash

One word: scarves. Those terrible, terrible scarves. And even though Julia ditched the shawls in Season 2, we can't seem to get the memory of them out of our heads. We still have this sneaky feeling of dread that Ellis isn't the only Season 1 atrocity waiting to pop back up.

Screech (Dustin Diamond), Saved by the Bell

Forget the fact that all early '90s fashion looks ridiculous now, but even when it was cool, Screech looked beyond bad. OK, so his character played up his dorkiness, but with the high-waisted pants and mismatched, deafeningly loud colored tops, it's no surprise that fashionista Lisa (or anyone besides Violet) did not take him seriously.

Sugar Motta (Vanessa Lengies), Glee

With so much colorful and daring fashion filling the halls of McKinley, it's hard for any character to stand above the rest as the biggest fashion disaster. But Sugar's mismatched, too-loud ensembles narrowly take the cake. All this time we thought her dad was some well-to-do ambassador, but then why does it look like she gets dressed in the dark every morning? A leopard print here or a hot-pink skirt there, sure, but Sugar is a repeat offender who mixes the most obnoxious colors and patterns on a daily basis with oversized accessories to match. Her horrible voice doesn't hurt our senses as much as her atrocious wardrobe.

Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt), Parks and Recreation

For a guy in his 30s, Andy hasn't really established a grown-up sophistication or identity when it comes to fashion. His everyday wardrobe runs the gamut from T-shirts to flannel shirts, and for his really professional days, he whips out the pale yellow, short-sleeved button-up and slacks that leave nothing to the imagination. Maybe with his new job, he'll get to wear a fancy suit! If Members Only made suits, that is.

Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), Desperate Housewives

Of all the housewives on Wisteria Lane, Lynette never quite took to the stay-at-home mom role the way Bree, Susan or Gaby did, and it showed in her horribly frumpy and ill-fitting clothes. While Gaby floated around the cul-de-sac in designer dresses and single Susan used low-cut tank tops to attract suitors, Lynette phoned it in day after day with boring button-up shirts and mom jeans. Sure, all her clothes were probably going to wind up soiled, but Bree could have loaned her a form-fitting sweater set or two! It's a wonder it took eight seasons for hubby Tom's eye to wander.

Andrea Zuckerman (Gabrielle Carteris), Beverly Hills 90210

Long before Liz Lemon made lady blazers cool, Andrea regularly showed off her varied collection (all with shoulder pads, of course). If the situation didn't call for a jacket, the socially awkward, unfashionable editor of West Beverly Blaze (what else would it be called?) donned floral blouses, patterned vests and ruffled peasant shirts. Andrea finally got a makeover in Season 5, as she shed her glasses and wore more body-flattering attire.

Tara Maclay (Amber Benson), Buffy the Vampire Slayer

We wish this witch conjured up something figure-flattering and age-appropriate to wear. When Tara isn't channeling a RenFaire escapee, she's raiding the closet of the local fortuneteller judging from her penchant for ill-fitting full skirts and billowy tops. Tara, you're a young, vibrant teenager, not someone's hippie aunt!
16 of 18 FOX

Tobias Funke (David Cross), Arrested Development

People say it's what's on the inside that counts. What's inside Tobias Funke's wardrobe? Super-short denim cut-offs! While Tobias might not be the only never-nude ("There are dozens of us!"), that doesn't make those shorts any more acceptable. His "condition" aside, Tobias wouldn't be making any Best Dressed list. That is, unless you're into leather daddies...

Cerie (Katrina Bowden), 30 Rock

It might not be fair to judge Cerie for her clothing because, frankly, she doesn't wear much of it. As much as Liz tried to mentor her assistant in appropriate dress, Cerie always just wrote off the constructive criticism as a symptom of Liz's "body image thing." The TGS writers never seemed to mind though, happy to keep gawking at Cerie's midriff, thongs and see-through tops as much as possible.

Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk), Breaking Bad

We'd like to report this crooked lawyer for assault — assaulting our eyes and sensibilities with his garish shirt-and-tie combos. Turn to him if you need help beating a rap (even if you are guilty), but if you need fashion advice, you better not call Saul!
