We Tour the Show's Atlanta Set!
Welcome to The Vampire Diaries' Atlanta production offices and sound stages where the crew — and a ghost — greeted me upon walking in. Can you guess it's almost Halloween?
Wandering the hallways of Mystic Falls High School, which was being filmed for a flashback, I noticed that no one had yet signed up for the drama club. Shocking for a school with so much drama that it's lacking members in this department.
In another office hallway are a ton of hilarious posters, most likely made by the graphics department either as fake background props or as gag gifts. I laughed even harder when I looked closely at the faded background of this one and noticed the silhouettes of Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder.
During our set tour with Michael Malarkey, we stopped to see some of the titles on the books in the Salvatore library. Needless to say, I can bet the boys haven't read them.
"You'll see some scenes coming up with me and Matt (Zach Roerig) take place here," he tellsTVGuide.com.
If you're ever in need of a tour guide, Michael's a great one! Fun fact: He recommends The Wrecking Bar in Atlanta. "They do their own craft beers and the food is to die for," he says. "It's got a London pub vibe to it so it reminds me of being back."
Although Damon isn't in the flashback scene we watched being filmed, we got to do our interview in the halls of Mystic Falls High. "Only on our show do you look at a locker and there's blood on it," he said while we were shooting.
Although Roerig isn’t a part of the flashback scene either, he wished he were. "It was very confusing walking up [to set] today because in Atlanta we're having a beautiful fall day and then I see a snow-filled set."
Remember that kiddie carousel Damon and Bonnie discovered at the end of Episode 3 this season? I found it stashed away in the hallway near where I was doing my interviews. Unfortunately it didn't accept my quarter.
Once the sun set, it was almost time to shoot the big flashback scene. Spoiler alert: Sheriff Forbes is there too!
