These TV characters show a special flair for fashion

1 of 20 PBS Masterpiece

Lady Edith Crawley (Laura Carmichael), Downton Abbey

As a liberated young woman of the 1920s, the second Crawley sister is dressing the part after years of dowdy duds. Diaphanous gowns in vibrant tones like coral or Tiffany blue are show-stoppers, especially when they scandalously leave her shoulders bare. Elaborate beading and a bohemian sensibility also reflect Lady Edith's newfound sense of feminine rebelliousness. After living in the shadow of her older sister, Edith is making her presence known in a big and fashionable way.

Red Reddington (James Spader), The Blacklist

The criminal mastermind is known to rock a debonair three-piece suit, but it's his various fedoras that really, shall we say, top off the outfit. His dark ensembles add to his old-school brand of intrigue, but also make him look pretty bada-- while taking down The Blacklisters. Intimidating, powerful and impeccably groomed. What else do you expect from the self-styled Concierge of Crime?

Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), Scandal

There is no one — no one — on the Hill whose appearance is as polished as Olivia Pope's. As a professional fixer, she needs to be decisive, and that's reflected in her outfits, which lean toward a monochromatic palette — lots of white, gray and black. Olivia's go-to pieces are her white trenchcoat and pantsuits that make a bold statement that always says she's in charge and will wear the white hat ... sometimes literally!

Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer),Game of Thrones

Daenerys has her dragons, Stannis has The Red Woman and Margaery has ... her cleavage. The Tyrell heir cleverly uses her femininity to manipulate her way into King's Landing's good graces (and Joffery's dirty dreams) with the help of plunging necklines and strategically placed cut-outs that would make J.Lo proud. But the delicate details and serene pale blues keep Margaery's gowns from getting too gaudy (though Cersei might disagree).

Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer), White Collar

White-collar criminals have never looked so good. Not many people would make suit-shopping their top priority upon getting out of prison, but thief-turned-FBI consultant Neal Caffrey is one of them. No offense to Red Reddington, but this stylish conman can rock a fedora better than any other (modern) character on television. No wonder so many people have fallen for his tricks!
6 of 20 Michael Yarish/AMC

Megan Draper (Jessica Pare), Mad Men

As Megan has gone from secretary to boss' wife to budding soap star, her fashion has evolved right along with her. She shed the more conservative office looks for minidresses and eye-grabbing ensembles with bold colors and prints. Although Megan knows how to use a sexy short skirt to keep Don's attention in the bedroom, her personal style most importantly represents Megan's youth. While most of the show's other characters are still dressing for the '50s, Megan dove head-first into the far-out looks of the future.

Kalinda Sharma (Archie Panjabi), The Good Wife

Three words, friends: Boots. Of. Justice. Sure, Alicia's two-piece suits are to die for and Diane Lockhart rocks a statement necklace like nobody’s business, but Kalinda's style is by far the most distinct. Whether she's trying to seduce one of her many admirers, or attempting to intimidate a possible witness into helping her solve a case, Kalinda's signature boots, short skirts and gorgeous fitted leather jackets always get the job done. Just like her mysterious past, Kalinda's wardrobe is always very dark, and her simple and understated jewelry is a perfect match for her no-nonsense demeanor. Working at a law firm never looked so alluring.

Stylish-characters-pretty-little-liars2

Aria, Spencer, Emily and Hanna (Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Shay Mitchell and Ashley Benson), Pretty Little Liars These girls might just be the most stylish high schoolers TV has ever seen, and it's even better that each of the four has developed their own unique look. For Aria, it's edgy and eclectic. You can thank (or blame) her for the feather earring craze that came and went. Spencer is classically tailored, timeless and preppy, which is an extension of her Type-A, genius-like personality. Hanna, a tad ditsy at times, tends to dress flirty and girly, while athlete Emily nails the casual and comfy look.

Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), Arrow

People might love when Ollie takes off his clothes, but it's what Felicity wears that gets everyone talking. The IT girl's bold style, including her fuchsia lipstick and chic frames, allow Felicity to stand out in the drab Starling City. It's always been clear Felicity was the smartest and most interesting woman on Arrow and it's great to see this reflected in her wardrobe.
10 of 20 Richard Cartwright/ABC

Nolan Ross (Gabriel Mann), Revenge

When he's not helping his BFF Emily scheme her next takedown, this offbeat computer whiz is styling in either a patterned blazer or colorful pants matched with perhaps a trendy skinny tie or bright pocket square. He may be Em's silent partner behind the scenes, but Nolan is never one to shy away from making a loud fashion statement.
11 of 20 Mark Levine/ABC

Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere), Nashville

Juliette's certainly had her share of missteps on the ABC country-music drama, but none sartorially speaking. We love that the country diva was even able to pull off a hipster look when attempting to go incognito! When she's on stage, Juliette's wardrobe is all rock star, but she's never relied on showing skin to cultivate star power. Especially now that Juliette has begun to realize just how fleeting fame can be, the scandalous songstress has adopted a more casual look — and becoming more relatable in the process.

Joan Watson (Lucy Liu), Elementary

There's a reason why Sherlock gets along with Joan so well: She puts on a classically conservative front, but harbors a creative and offbeat soul that understands his quirks. The clues to her nature are in her wardrobe. The lady knows how to rock a shift dress like no other, and the short hemlines never read too young because she keeps the fit loose or warms up the ensemble with tights. She ramps up neutral palettes with stripes, graphic prints, boho silhouettes or assymetry and accessorizes winter wear effortlessly with artful scarves, jaunty hats and booties. Never boring, but always appropriate; Sherlock could take a few pointers from his partner!

Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari), Parks and Recreation

Most of Pawnee is a tepid sea of demure blouses, button-up shirts and pant suits, but Rent-A-Swag's founder has always displayed a real taste for the finer things in life, especially when it comes to his impressive wardrobe. You'd be hard-pressed to find any other government employee wearing leather loafers with red carpet insoles, argyle sweaters and fedoras. And while some might argue otherwise, we think it takes a real man to pull off a hot pink Lacoste polo.

Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson), Hart of Dixie

Zoe has been living in Bluebell, Alabama for more than three years, but it's hard to tell that from looking at her wardrobe. Just like her Southern accent (or lack thereof), it will be a long time before the doctor fully assimilates and hangs up her high heels, tailored blazers and all that black in favor of poufy skirts and floral prints. Although some of her outfits, particularly the short shorts and the cut-out dresses, can seem like an odd choice for a medical professional, Zoe pretty much rocks whatever she wears, so the only crime here is that she's required to cover her beautiful threads with a doctors coat at the office.

Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling), The Mindy Project

Loud. Flirty. Bold. These words could just as easily describe Mindy's clothes as they do her personality. The doctor isn't afraid to take chances in love and in fashion, leading to unique looks often built on statement pieces from Alice + Olivia or Kate Spade. Houndstooth, sequins, Peter-Pan collars — there's nothing Mindy won't wear. And we can't wait to see what she'll pull out of her closet next!

Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), How I Met Your Mother

Nothing suits Barney Stinson like a suit, remember? Sure, the man was driven to "suit up" after his hippie self was dumped for a spiffily dressed yuppie back in the day, but his designer duds have been nothing short of legendary. And no wonder they're so well cut: Tim Gunn is his personal stylist.
17 of 20 Adamo Di Loreto/USA

Divya Katdare (Reshma Shetty), Royal Pains

The physician assistant is just what the doctor ordered when it comes to a much-needed breath of fresh air in the Hamptons and as a referee between HankMed's Lawson brothers. Warm and vibrant, Divya picks a similarly warm color palette of red, coral, fuchsia, pumpkin and saffron for her breezy, seaside-ready ensembles. But she adds her own twist with elaborate jewelry — whether it's a chunky statement necklace or outrageously dangly earrings, Divya is not afraid to express her individuality. This boldness shows a direct nature and inspires confidence in her patients.
18 of 20 Gilles Mingasson/ABC

Bert Harrison, Trophy Wife

Like the precocious little man he is, Bert dresses well beyond his years, usually in collared polos, button-downs and belted slacks (what 7-year-old do you know likes to wear slacks?) that make his Yiddish-spouting self all the more adorable. But should it be any surprise that Bert's well-dressed when you see Tsai's equally precious real-life hipster style?
19 of 20 Patrick Harbron/Netflix

Claire Underwood (Robin Wright), House of Cards

Claire's wardrobe almost perfectly encapsulates the icy woman of few words who wears it. With a closet full of sleek, minimalist dresses and power suits (almost always in black, white or gray), Claire's look exudes power and clout with just a hint of sexiness. (Although when she switches to strapless evening gowns, there's no questioning her physical appeal.) Like Claire herself, the fashion is never overpowering nor flashy, but rather presents a sense of well-starched strength and control that shouldn't be overlooked or underestimated.

The Cast of Suits

Mike (Patrick J. Adams) once asked Harvey (Gabriel Macht), "Why does it matter how much I spend on a suit?" His answer: "People respond to how we're dressed, so like it or not, this is what you have to do." No show subscribes to the "dress for success" adage more than Suits, and the legal drama's impeccable, power-play sartorial ways for the guys and the gals make a lasting first impression and leave us green with envy. The cast's wardrobe looks so good, it makes us want to become lawyers, especially since we hear you don't even need a degree these days.
